1. Lightheadedness

People having orthostatic hypotension experience fall of blood pressure while sitting up from a horizontal position, or standing up from a sitting or lying position. Though the symptom lasts for a very short duration, it tends to be distressing as the person gets older. The fall in blood pressure automatically gets adjusted to the new posture. When a person is anxious and has panic attacks, a person can feel faint-headed. This symptom can worsen if the person tries to hyperventilate during the attack. As a side effect of certain drugs, people do face lightheadedness. One should check the leaflet of the medicine to see if dizziness is a known side effect.

2. Weakness

Anaemia leads to severe physical exhaustion and tiredness. A person experiences shortness of breath, palpitations, weakness, decreased energy levels and dizziness. Anaemic people have insufficient supply of oxygen to the brain which causes weakness.

3. Headache

People who have migraine associated vertigo show symptoms like intense headache, vomiting and nausea. Such patients experience stiffness in the neck, visual/speech problems and display a strong adverse reaction to light. Migraine pain relief medications are used to treat migraines and its symptoms. These people should avoid stress, alcohol, smoking, chocolate and cheese which normally aggravate migraine condition. The symptom of headache can last from a few hours to several days.

4. Loss of balance

Mรฉniรจreโ€™s disease is a condition related to severe pressure fluctuations in the inner ears. People with this condition experience intense attacks of dizziness that throws them off balance and also leads a person to vomit. Usually, they experience slight changes in their hearing and feel the build up of pressure in one of the ears before the attack. People experiencing an attack are mistake themselves to be drunk since they feel sick and lose balance. Each period of attack may last from few minutes to several hours. A diuretic medication and a diet that is low on salt lowers the risk of pressure build up in the ears. The treatment can bring down the frequency of such attacks. There are also anti-vertigo medicines that are helpful in mitigating the intensity of the attack.

5. Palpitation

Arrhythmiasย is a heart condition where there is an abnormal heart rhythm. The heart may either beat too fast or slow causing palpitation. There is an abrupt decrease in the blood supply to the brain which leads to the symptom. Various heart disorders may also cause reduction in the blood supply to the brain, causing palpitation. People may also experience sweating, shortness of breath and discomfort in the chest.

6. Vertigo

The world spins around the person who experiences vertigo. At times, it leads a person to throw up and feel sick. This is mainly caused due to problem in the inner ears where the vestibular or labyrinth nerve is damaged or is not working properly. When this nerve either sends too many or very few signals to the brain, it often leads to confusion, which results in vertigo. The symptom often develops a few days after a cold or influenza. It may last for few days but in severe cases may persist up to two to three weeks. For dizziness caused by vestibular neuritis, the experience can be strong and troublesome. Anti-vertigo drugs help in the treatment of the symptom. Various other inner ear problems such as labyrinthitis, benign paroxysmal positional vertigo and acoustic neuroma also cause varying episodes of vertigo.

7. Confusion

A person is not able to think properly and experiences a lack of clarity. This usually means not able to recognize their location or peopleโ€™s faces, determine the date or time. It even impairs the decision making ability in a person. Hypoglycemia is a condition where there is a decrease in the blood sugar and causes sweating, confusion and dizziness.
