Four Things You Do That Could Be Ruining Your Skin

Having blemish-free skin is the dream of every person – both male and female. As such, people end up spending thousands of dollars in order to keep their skin looking good. Yet in some cases, despite all efforts, nothing seems to work and frustration sets in as you wonder what you need to do to achieve that flawless look.

However, before you go out to buy the next miracle skin cure, or go through another expensive facial cleansing procedure, consider the habits you may be engaging in that could be undermining your efforts.

According to skin experts DermMedica Kelowna, there are many factors that contribute to messing up your clear-skin goals and we will look at the four most common.

Using dirty gadgets

How often do you clean or even replace the implements you use for your skincare regime? Do you keep your skincare products and gadgets such as razors, tweezers sponges, and makeup brushes, in places that are humid, or exposed to oil, dirt, and dust? Using dirty skincare implements will cause your pores to clog which in-turn will lead to breakouts.

Always use clean water and soap to wash all your cosmetic implements such as brushes; also disinfect your razors and replace your gadgets regularly.

Touching yourself with dirty hands

After you have come from a bus, or from buying groceries, or even from the gas station, would you be comfortable sticking your fingers into your mouth? Probably, not. Yet you have no problem touching your face and other body parts with dirty hands. This is bound to transfer germs and cause breakouts. Remember to wash your hands often and as much as possible, just stop touching your face all the time.

Also, remember that your phone can contribute immensely to spreading such dirt. Wipe it regularly with alcohol to remove sweat, contaminants, and traces of makeup.

Picking and scratching

It is normal to respond to an itch by scratching, and a quick one is usually not bad. The problem is when your repeat the scratch over and over again until you end-up damaging the skin, scraping off its protective top layer. This leaves the skin exposed and prone to infection. Picking at a pimple is another bad habit since it can cause you to start bleeding and expose the area to harmful bacteria. Should you have constant itching, it is advisable to seek the services of a qualified dermatologist who will advise you accordingly.

Failure to handle skin with care

How do you rub your body with a towel in order to dry yourself? If you rub yourself vigorously, you are stripping away all the important oils from your body through the constant abrasion and friction. When you deprive yourself of such oils, your skin becomes dry and irritated. It is advisable to gently pat your skin for it to dry then moisturize it by using a suitable cream.

Your skin is an important body organ, just like any other, you need to take absolute care of it.
