1. Dry skin and dry hair

Dehydration, that is lack of water in your body, affects your entire body including your skin and hair. When your body is deprived of water it loses the capacity of keeping of your immune system, your skin and your hair hydrated. Your skin will appear dry and dull. Same will be the case with your hair as even your hair will appear lifeless. This happens because the tissues of your skin are not well hydrated and hence less resilient. To keep dehydration away from you, keep your body well hydrated and do not forget the importance of water for your body.

2. Loss of appetite

Your body will definitely not function properly if you are suffering from water shortage. Due to lack of water, your body will not be able to flush the waste from your body which will trigger a lot of acidity also called acidosis. Acidosis leads to nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Nausea and vomiting will definitely not permit you to have food leading to loss of appetite. To have a healthy appetite you must keep your system hydrated with water.

3. Acidosis

Your body needs water to digest your food and drain out all the toxins. If water is not sufficient in your body it will not be able to digest your food or flush out these toxins. Undigested food and toxins in your body will trigger acidity. Acidosis is nothing but excessive acidity in your body. A high acidity level is again bad because it will lead to vomiting and diarrhea. If you are already dehydrated due to vomiting and diarrhea, acidosis will make it worse. So make sure you consume lots of water when unwell.

4. Fatigue or exhaustion

Low levels of water in your body hinders appropriate functioning of your body. When suffering from vomiting, diarrhea or other diseases that create loss of water in your body, you tend to feel exhausted or tired. This tiredness is due to dehydration. Fatigue and exhaustion are symptoms of mild dehydration. It is not just these diseases, even their medications can cause loss of water. In short, when unwell you must make sure you consume more water than your body requires under normal circumstances in order to get well soon. In fact, you must make sure that you consume at least 8 glasses of water daily.

5. Increased heart rate

Dehydration causes loss of fluid in your body. Hence, the volume of your blood decreases. A lower volume of blood in your body makes circulation of blood difficult. Because your heart can not manage to circulate blood to your body in one beat, it has to beat faster in order to keep maintain adequate blood circulation. If dehydration is not controlled, the patient can also have a heart stroke leading to death.ย Increased heart rate is a symptom of chronic dehydration and it needs to be dealt with at the earliest. Dehydration can reach acute or chronic levels if not taken care of in time.

6. Low blood pressure

Regular loss of water during illnesses such as vomiting, diarrhea, sweating and nausea can lead to dehydration. All these problems reduce the volume of blood in your body, hence reducing the amount of blood pumped by your heart. This can create a drop in your blood pressure quite drastically. Besides the illnesses, the medications related to the illness require a certain amount of food and water to be effective without causing severe reactions such as a decreased blood pressure: a chronic symptom of dehydration. When on any medication, make sure you consume enough water and proper food to keep yourself hydrated.

7. Head rush, dizziness and fainting

Dizziness or spinning of your head, fainting and falling down and severe headaches are some head rush symptoms of dehydration. Head rush is a symptom for a number of other illness as well. However, you can know that you are suffering from head rush due to dehydration if it occurs due to malnutrition or ill health. Get yourself to a doctor if this problem occurs frequently. Head rushes usually occurs due to reduced amount of water in your body. Hence, make sure you keep yourself well hydrated always.

8. Decreased volume or dark brown urine

When dehydrated, the color of your urine turns to dark brown, frequency of wanting to urinate reduces and there is also a reduction in the volume of urine passed. These are again symptoms of mild dehydration. Because your body needs enough water to regulate the working of your immune system, it retains water and, hence, urination reduces with a change in the color of the urine. When unwell, keep a track of dehydration by noticing urination frequency, volume and color. If you notice any changes, increase your intake of water to prevent severe dehydration. Add a little salt and sugar to water to make it electrolyte-rich before drinking it.

9. Thirst and dry mouth

The first symptom of dehydration is an abnormal thirst. Abnormal thirst occurs in mild dehydration. If you feel that the sensation of thirst has increased, you might be suffering from dehydration. It is the tendency of our body to demand for things it lacks. Hence, when dehydrated, your body naturally demands more water than normal. Before you choose to hydrate your body, make sure you are choosing the right fluid as you should avoid drinks with caffeine and high sugar content. Instead, opt for electrolytic water or plain water. When unwell, make sure that you drink a glass or two more than the normal water requirement of your body
