1. Difficulty in concentrating and disorientation

Forgetfulness is a common symptom of menopause. Women find it difficult to remember things. They are not able to concentrate with the same intensity as they could earlier. These problems are aggravated by lack of sleep. To counter these issues you should relax by involving yourself into activities which reduce stress. These can be yoga, meditation and breathing exercises. You can also involve yourself in physical activities like walking and jogging.

2. Sleep disorders

Menopause can cause insomnia and restlessness while sleeping. Earlier, it was believed that insomnia during menopause was caused by night sweats. However, latest studies show that the problems associated with sleep can happen even if you are not suffering from night sweats. Studies show that women start facing sleep disorders 5 to 7 years before they enter menopause. The reason behind sleep disorder is the alteration in the levels of reproductive hormones.

3. Fatigue

Fatigue is one of the symptoms of menopause. It is more prominent in the transition phase. Fatigue affects the life of women drastically as it can affect work efficiency and may cause tensions in their relationships. Fatigue leads to tiredness and weakness from reduced energy levels.

4. Mood swings

Mood swings are caused by variation in the hormone level. As menopause causes change in the level of hormones, women suffer from mood swings during menopause. The symptoms of mood swing are that you may swing between feelings of joy and depression, frequently and without any apparent external trigger for these emotions.

5. Vaginal dryness

Vaginal dryness refers to the situation when the lining of the vagina area loses its moisture and becomes dry. Due to this, the moisture of the vagina is lost and it causes a lot of irritation and itching. The low estrogen level is the cause of this vaginal dryness. Due to this, the vagina becomes more prone to infection, sex is uncomfortable and vagina becomes itchy.

6. Loss or lack of libido

Usually, everyone faces loss or lack of libido one time or the other in their life. The reason for it can be an issue with the relationship or due to change in the hormone levels. During menopause, since there are a lot of changes in the hormone level, this leads to loss or lack of libido in some women.

7. Irregular menstrual cycle

Irregular, short or absent periods are caused by hormonal imbalance. Thus, during menopause, when the level of the estrogen hormone starts decreasing irregular periods are a common symptom. Some women have lighter period some times and heavy periods the other times. The duration of periods may also get altered. You may have short or prolonged periods. Women also complain of missing periods.

8. Night sweats

The night version of hot flashes is termed as night sweats. Night sweat is more intense than hot flashes. Another name for night sweats is โ€˜nocturnal hyperhydrosisโ€™. It is a perspiration disorder which occurs during sleep.

9. Hot flashes

Hot flashes are very common in menopausal women. It is estimated that approximately 75% of women experience them. Hot flashes refer to an unexpected, momentary sensation of heat or warmth which spreads across the body and creates a flush. Some women experience weak flushes and some experience overwhelming heat. Both these are normal for women approaching menopause. These hot flushes are the reaction of the body to the decreased level of estrogen hormone. In some women, there is a gradual decrease of estrogen. These women experience few hot flashes. In some women, the production of estrogen stops suddenly. These women have very intense hot flashes.
