1. A normal condition turned worse

I started to suffer from constipation after delivering my first baby. This gradually turned into nightmarish episodes wherein I would spend hours inside the toilet without any bowel movement. At times, I would go once in 2-3 days, which led to a contraction in my anal muscles leading to fissures and bleeding. The straining and the pain that came along with bowel movements became such an ordeal for me that I would put off my trips to the toilet for fear of the excruciating pain. This constipation resulted in me becoming extremely distressed so much so that I couldn’t tend to my newborn with patience and calm. This is when one of my friends suggested a change of diet that would work wonders for my acute constipation problem. I took the advice and started having oats in the morning and stewed six prunes in a small glass of warm water that contained 1 tsp of L glutamite powder and lemon juice everyday. After eating the oats and the prunes with the water, I used to couple it up with some deep breathing and pelvic exercises for around half an hour, which actually helped me to pass stool without any strain whatsoever. Now I have incorporated this routine religiously and I have overcome constipation successfully.ย

2. Fiber in my diet didn't help

I am eighteen now and am proud to say that I have finally overcome my chronic constipation that had started when I was only ten months old. Despite eating well with a good appetite, I was losing weight. I also had colic since the time of birth, which led to episodes of stomach discomfort because of gas which I couldn’t pass out. Later, when I started solids, my intake was quite good, but I apparently failed to put on weight and the constipation remained. My mother introduced more fiber in my food, which did not help much. However, the only thing that did have a good effect were having prunes in my diet. A lot of doctors were consulted but I continued with my constipation problem which persisted despite various treatments. After a few recommendations from her friends, my mom decided to go in for a homeopathic treatment to help me cope with constipation, I was fifteen when I started taking homeopathic treatment, which is probably the safest in terms of side effects and is known to uproot an ailment quite effectively. A remarkable difference was noted in me after a month and a half of the homeopathic treatment. I began straining less during bowel movement and also stopped losing weight. After three and a half months, I started having normal bowel movements and that changed my life and made me a happier person!

3. My long journey

I am a 30 year old woman and have suffered from chronic constipation since the age of 16. The sheer feeling of heaviness and dampened energy levels is extremely demoralizing for a person suffering from constipation. The episodes that triggered constipation during the initial stages were very unclear to me, however, the situation worsened and became chronic. There would be times when I wouldn’t go to the toilet for days, which eventually led to a lot of pain and discomfort when I finally did. I did try a lot of remedies, but was always scared and wary of the outcome. Then a few years later, with the help of a friend’s sister who was a GP, I began to follow a high fiber diet to increase my bowel movement and bring in some regularity to my system. A lot of brans, raw fruits and vegetables were incorporated in my diet including Psyllium Husk, which is a natural source of fiber to be consumed with water. Apart from high fiber, I made it a point to have at least two liters of water a day. It took a few weeks until my system finally cleared out and I started having a regular and systematic bowel movement. Now I feel lighter, healthier and more in control of things.ย

4. Gone for good

I am a 25 year old who had been suffering from severe constipation ever since I was a toddler, but surprisingly my twin never went through the same dilemma. It all started when I was around 18 months old and started holding back when sitting on the toilet seat. My parents really couldn’t understand this, and eventually I ended up with a poor appetite and would not poo for days on end. As a result of this, I started getting moody and irritable and also complained of stomach aches. One thing that my parents started noticing was that I had a strong aversion to the brown color of poo and that is when they decided to see a GP. The GP, however, started working on the problem and found that there was a fissure in my anus, which was then assumed to be the reason that kept me from defecating. Suppositories were prescribed, which were very tough to administer and did not yield any results. This became rather depressing for my family. The worst point of this problem happened when I did not poo for two weeks and became extremely distressed with a stomach ache and a swollen abdomen at which point my parents rushed me to the Emergency Department of the hospital. I was administered an enema and now then is was on a treatment which comprises of senna, macragol and lactulose. Luckily, I responded well to the treatment and my parents also made it a point to ensure that I drank a lot of water throughout the day. I became a much relaxed and happier kid and this led to a general feeling of happiness in the family too. After years of a very controlled diet, I finally succeeded in getting rid of constipation for good.

5. I am a happier kid at thirteen

I had a serious problem with constipation since my childhood, particularly when I had started taking solids, this problem worsened when I turned six. Coupled with bouts of indigestion, the constipation took a serious turn when anything that I ate would be either passed out without a sense of warning as my bowel muscles became lax. At times, when I remained constipated, I would vomit out all that I had eaten or would complain of a severe stomach ache. It was tough for my parents to find me a babysitter that would be able to clean my bottom and take off my soiled clothes and clear the mess. Because of this condition, I became irritable and cranky. It was typical for my family to see me standing in a puddle of poo whilst out shopping without me not even knowing it! However, my parents understood the fact that they should never embarrass me in public and learned to accept my condition so that I didn’t lose my self esteem. I was visibly distressed over all this, it was tough for me to do the activities my siblings did like swimming. However, with some intervention from the doctor, I started taking a medication that cleans the bowel without having those excruciating tummy aches and vomiting episodes. This treatment has helped my dysfunctional bowel to heal and my enlarged colon and contracted muscles have now come back their normal positions. Now, at thirteen, I am a much more happier kid, both physically and emotionally.ย
