1. Biting may be a symptom

When my son was 6 months old, he was quite cranky and looked pale. He used to bite me and was quite aggressive in his behavior too. I thought it was because of teething process and I did not pay much attention. One day, I invited one of my friends over dinner. She came along with her daughter. Both my son and her daughter were playing when suddenly my son bit her daughter. In my shock, I shouted on him. My friend then suggested me to visit the doctor saying her daughter had the same behavior a few months back and doctor had diagnosed her as anemic. The next day I visited my doctor, who told me that extreme crankiness in children could be due to iron deficiency. He said that worms can cause anemia in children due to which they feel weak and irritable. A blood test confirmed it and my son was given iron supplements. Soon his health got better and he became a healthy and happy child.

2. Story of a college girl

I am a college going girl and I am very conscious of my looks. A couple of years back when I had joined junior college, I was plump. In my desperation to look good, I started avoiding food. I used to skip meals for the entire day and survived only on tea and a burger. This made me weak and made my skin shrink. I became irritable but I was adamant to become as sexy and slim as models. One day while writing my exam I fainted since I had not eaten any proper meal for last two days. I was quickly rushed to the doctor where he confirmed that I was anemic and needed balanced nutrition to regain health. I consulted a dietitian. She suggested me right food chart and right kind of exercises. Very soon, I recovered from anemia. Now, I take good care of my skin, hair and nails and physique. The only difference is that now I take care of them in a healthy manner and do not compromise on my diet for the sake of looking slim and beautiful.

Soon after my child’s birth the pattern of my menstrual bleeding changed and I began to bleed in excess. Taking care of the baby and loss of blood took a great toll on my health and I began to feel highly irritated and tired all the time. In my frustration, I used to cry and feel low. One day my close friend visited me and asked the reason behind my pale face. I told her that it was due to exhaustion but my friend could make out that there was more to it than exhaustion. She advised me to see a doctor. Next day, I went to a doctor and she told me that I was anemic due to excessive bleeding. She gave me iron supplements and asked me to eat iron rich diet. Rich diet and iron supplements really worked and within a few weeks, I regained my energy back, thanks to my best friend!

4. Excess of caffeine is bad

Few years back, I led a very hectic life and used to drink a lot of tea and coffee. I survived majorly on these drinks. Gradually I began to feel weak and energy seemed to be constantly depleting from my body. I could not concentrate on my work. Consequently my performance got from good to worse. It reflected in my appraisal also and when I discussed about it with my boss she noticed that I looked pale and dull. She immediately pointed out that I better see a doctor. The doctor confirmed that I was anemic due to excess intake of coffee and tea. I slowly curbed my habit of over drinking caffeine and gradually began to feel better. Now, I have overcome the disease and living a better life.

5. Correct diet helped me deliver a healthy baby

I was running the fifth month of my pregnancy. One day I suddenly felt giddy while cooking food. I fell down in the kitchen. Luckily at that time my mother in law was at home as she had come to live with us for a few days. She heard some noise in the kitchen and quickly reached me. With the help of our maid, she took me to the bedroom. The next day, me and my husband visited the doctor and she told me that I was anemic. She gave me some iron capsules and asked me to eat food rich in iron like spinach, jaggery, whole grains, etc. Good diet and iron supplements helped me overcome my anemia and I eventually gave birth to a healthy baby girl.
