It can destroy your social life, keep you away from your loved one, can make you face problems in career or relation and can also lose your self confidence. Mostly the signs and symptoms of depression are same for men and women both, however, women faces more symptoms of depression often that too because of men. No matter what is the background of the women, the problem of depression is suffered by everybody.

When it comes to common depression it is said that women are diagnosed more with such illness as compared to men. Factors like reproductive, hormonal or some biological factors are responsible for such problem in women. However in America more than 6 million men are diagnosed with the problem of depression every year. Such men suffer from symptoms which are completely different as compared to women like feeling tired or facing digestive problem and getting irritated.

Men vs. Women: Difference in symptom patterns

In one research made, it is explained on how sadness is expressed in men and women. It is said that women usually show the visible signs of emotions like crying where in case of men, they are more rigid and does not show much emotion. In men, signs of depression are bit difficult to detect as compared to women. Some men show the signs easily which can be identified whereas for some it does not. Note that signs of depression are different in women, children and men out of which some are unique, while others are difficult to identify.

Feelings of anger and pessimism

Many men have the tendency to become angry or prismetic about themselves and their abilities as compared to women. They start finding the world around them unrewarding, unhappy and will start behaving with their loved one in more irritable and angry way. Depressed men are likely to blast out and blame other people as compared to women. This makes it hard for the people to understand that man is depressed. If some person blames or criticizes you all the time then it becomes difficult for you to deal with it. However, when women are depressed, she shows sadness and those people around them can get a feeling of consoling for them. In case of angry depressed men, they often make people who are around them angry. They become moody and are also preoccupied with them and they become selfish. The depression in men can be seen with the signs of bad behavior and selfishness.

Feelings of irritability and restlessness

When men get depressed, they start feeling uncomfortable physically and mentally. Most of the men become avoidant rather than introspective nature. If they are depressed or anxious they cannot focus on things well enough as compared to women. However they can easily make things past and move on with it and don’t pay much attention to what has hurt them. In case of severe depression, avoiding and ignoring feeling lead to severe problems.

Resistance and self blame

As compared to women, men usually blame themselves more for the deeds done. They blame themselves for feeling bad or get distressed. When they do all these things they feel distressed and start feeling bad about it. This results in anxiety and results in the mental behavior called rumination. In this problem, there is a pattern of thinking where you try to solve the problem where you are not actually supposed to resolve. This becomes an obsession which can disturb your sleep and result in lots of stress and depression.

Non-communicative behavior that leads to relationship problem

When people start feeling bad about themselves, it becomes difficult to balance the relation with other people and communicate with internal state. Such behavior is a disadvantage for men, when it comes to these skills. It does not come as naturally for them to talk about their feelings and they need to work hard at their relation as compared to women. Women try to balance the relation with others, no matter what problem they are facing in their personal life. In case of men, when they become depressed, they start losing energy.

Doctors are now realizing the differences in signs and symptoms of depression in men and women. However, the common thing between the two is that they both need support and should seek for help when in need.
