1. A lost cause

I was a very chubby woman and I hated how I looked. So I had undergone a weight loss surgery to make myself look more acceptable to the society. I had no idea that this would lead to gastritis. It was because of my digestive tract being reconstructed after being damaged by the surgery. I had this burning pain in my abdomen and would sometimes stand for hours holding my stomach at one place. The first few week were dreadful, I lost a lot of weight even after the surgery. But I am slowly recovering now under medication and have learnt to accept myself like I am.ย

2. A greedy boy

I knew I had gastritis but I was very casual about it. I would go on eating junk food and oily stuff because I loved the taste of it. On the last winter, I went to a party and had a lot of food with alcohol. The next day I could not even get up from my bed. My body had developed so much acid in it than when I walked, I could practically feel and hear it splashing in my tummy. There was a doctor who lives just a street away, but even to reach that clinic it took me around half an hour. I vowed to myself, as I dragged myself to the clinic, that I will never be so careless again. I have maintained my promise and have never had another such severe case of acidity again.

3. A drinking problem

I was under severe stress during the last year and my family was not around to support me in the vicinity. So I started drinking heavily and in an unguarded fashion. A few weeks later when my family returned, I stopped drinking altogether. But even then, I woke up every morning to a severe abdominal pain and nausea. I could not understand why, but was afraid of going to the doctor. I did not want to be told that I have some kidney or liver failure because of my drinking habits. But when the pain became unbearable and my family started noticing it, I just had to go. It turned out that I had developed gastritis, and it was because of my excessive alcohol consumption. I started taking the remedies provided by the clinic and now I have this pain very rarely which I used to face every morning.

4. An unknown illness

I regularly had arguments at home related to my eating habits. My mother would regularly accuse me of having junk food from outside and hence not touching the meals she made. This was her agenda every time I said that I am not hungry. I would keep repeating that I had nothing to eat outside either but she would never believe me. I was surprised at my own lack of appetite, I hardly liked eating anything. I would start off eating something, and then after taking a few bites, I would not be touching it again. My family would sit down to have dinner together on the table and I would be just sitting blankly without touching anything. This attracted a lot of criticism from everybody, and I started avoiding having dinner with my family altogether. A neighbor of mine, along with my mother, then dragged me to a hospital where I was told that I have an illness called gastritis and that it is not that severe a problem and can be handled easily. I started taking precautions and some medicines they provided and made immense improvements. Now the only reason for which I get shouted at when I dine with my family are my never ending mischievous activities.

5. A trip to remember

I was going on a family trip after ages because my mother had been complaining a lot that I do not spend time with them. It was a large group so we had booked an entire bus for the journey. Half way through the journey I started feeling a very severe abdominal pain out of nowhere. But I was used to it so I did not care much, and went on pretending to be normal. My mom offered me some of my favorite delicacies and yet I did not even touch them. She asked me if I have some problem and I told her that I am not feeling well and itโ€™s all under control. But she refused to listen to me and got me checked up at the nearest clinic that came in the way. I learned that the pain I was suffering and keeping quiet about was because of gastritis. It was a huge relief to know that it was not something worse because it caused severe heart burns too, making me feel as if it was something more malicious. It was because of my excess intake of aspirins as per the doctorโ€™s observation. I, on returning, moved out of the college hostel and moved in with my family. Home made and timely meals proved to be a cure for my gastritis.
