1. Expert recommendation led me through

I had been suffering from heavy menstrual bleeding and cramps for about a year and even after trying a variety of birth control pills, things did not improve. My gynecologist then suggested an ultrasound to diagnose the problem and it turned out that I had one 5 cm fibroid and other small fibroids inside my uterus. She performed a hysterectomy to only remove the polyps and the smaller fibroid as she did not think the large fibroid was causing any problems. After the procedure, my symptoms became worse and I lost faith in my doctor. I saw another OB who did an ultrasound only to reveal that the larger fibroid had now grown to 7 cm. She recommended MRI guided focused ultrasound therapy. My post-procedure MRI showed 60-70% reduction in blood supply to the fibroid. I was back to work the next day itself and my first periods after the procedure are proof that the fibroid will not trouble me any more.

2. A difficult journey

When I first learned from my doctor that I had uterine fibroids I did not share the news with my family and friends. You wonโ€™t believe it but I was embarrassed to do so. That was where I was wrong. Over time I learned this is not something to be ashamed of and realized there were many women out there with the same problem as mine. My doctor carried out an ultrasound and detected three large fibroids. He immediately recommended hysterectomy or uterine embolization. I was not very happy about uterine embolization as that would affect my child bearing ability. So, I decided to read up and find out about other treatments on my own. Thatโ€™s when I came across Focused Ultrasound therapy. It was a life changing experience. I am free of all the symptoms of fibroids and back to being my normal self.

3. An alternative that actually helped

When I was diagnosed with uterine fibroids the first option available for me was Myomectomy. I had heard about the procedure from one of my friends who had gone through it the year before, so I had no qualms about undergoing it. Unfortunately, the fibroids grew back, which is when the doctor suggested Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE) as a better alternative than hysterectomy. Since I was on the other side of the 40 and already has three beautiful children I was not worried about the consequences of this operation. The surgery went off smoothly and I recovered within a week. The UFE procedure was very helpful for me and I would recommend it to others as well.

4. It worked great

I was diagnosed with submucosal fibroid five years ago. I underwent a Hysteroscopic Myomectomies to get rid of the tumor and the doctor told me the surgery was successful. However, the fibroids returned in a few months and I had to go back for the Myomectomy. Nine months down the line I was back at the hospital again for removing the tumor. Even my doctors were baffled and they told me they hadnโ€™t seen anything like this before. So, they suggested a new treatment for me, Robotic Laproscopic Myomectomy, to remove my submucosal fibroid. I was really apprehensive about the treatment as I did not want the tumor to come back again. It has been six months now since the surgery and there are no signs of the fibroid recurring. The Robotic Laproscopic Myomectomy worked great for me and I am finally healthy and stress free.

5. A successful treatment

At the age of 27, I never could imagine myself suffering from any health disorders as I maintained a very healthy and active lifestyle. However, a routine examination directed me down the path to the operating room. I had uterine fibroids. I was shocked and not ready to admit that I had a tumor growing inside of me. My doctor suggested Myomectomy to remove the tumor as the only option available to me. However, I was not prepared to go under the knife. I decided against the surgery and started gathering as much information as I could about uterine fibroids. My hard work paid off and I learned about MR-guided focused ultrasound surgery. This treatment was very successful and after three procedures I am back to working full time and enjoy perfect health.
