Fevers: Symptoms

Top Symptoms

1. Chills

This might be the most common symptom of fever, especially in those experiencing viral fever. The feeling of chillness occurs when the virus responsible for fever in our body slowly spreads and decreases the blood pressure. The person’s body affected by fever becomes weak, and is unable to produce and provide the much needed sufficient heat to regulate the body temperature. This inability to sustain body heat can also hamper the body’s immune system, which is why fever in infants and kids can easily lead to complications as their body is not strong enough to fight diseases.

2. Loss of appetite

This is another common symptom of fever which is not easy to identify right away, as the loss of appetite can also be the result of many other reasons, such as stress, restlessness and so on. Hence, it is a minor symptom that one has to notice, especially in the case of kids and infants.

3. Nausea and vomiting

A lot of people who have fever of any kind must have suffered from this symptom one time or the other. This is also very common in people who have been bitten by the Aedes mosquito, and this symptom starts within first 4 hours of its bite. Otherwise, this is a very common symptom for people who suffer from fever, as the body functioning and metabolism is disturbed.

4. Ache in legs

This is probably a very common symptom seen in people suffering from dengue fever. Aches in legs is among the early signs of the onset of fever, where pain in legs can vary from mild to severe, days before the fever starts. Though, it is a common symptom before the onset of dengue fever, many suffering from other forms of fevers might not experience this symptom. However, it is imperative to take a note of leg pains, if no other apparent reasons can be found.

5. Severe headaches

Headache is yet another common symptom that comes with fever, along with vomiting, nausea and body ache. Headache can be directly associated with mild to high temperatures due to fever. If the sufferers of fever get headache, slowly increasing with the passage of each day to severity, then one should get checked for fever. Headaches caused as a result of fever usually cannot be remedied at home with home remedies, as the root cause of the problem cannot be treated without proper diagnosis and treatment.

6. Muscle and joint pain

This might be one of the obvious symptoms of many types of fevers, such as dengue and malaria. It indicates that the virus has incubated in the entire body system and causes weakening of muscles and joints, often affecting the upper and lower back of the body.

7. Pain in eyes

The usual symptom is that the person will feel pain in the eyes or on the sides of his eyes. It is also accompanied by heat around the eyes and a feeling of tiredness in the eyes is also there. The individual with this symptom would prefer to keep the eyes closed and sleep over staying awake.
