1. Proper rest is the key

I am 55 years old and I suffer from dizzy spells once a month and they last for about 9 hours and return again a month later. I have a weird smell sometimes get real sweaty get dizzy for about 10 to 15 seconds then I am good for an hour then it happens again. I have had every test that you can imagine even been in the hospital ER hooked up to machines and everything is always normal. This has been happening for the past 2 and 1/2 years. The only time I feel properly relaxed is when I take rest at home with my family that is the only thing that keeps me going. Rests and breaks are very important when you are suffering from dizziness.

2. Must do's

I am a 42 year old female and I experienced my first bout of dizziness over five years ago. I was shopping at Walmart and it came out of nowhere. I got very dizzy, weak, and felt like I was going to faint. I also got very hot and then cold so I ended up in the ER that night and again a few days later. My whole nervous system seemed like it was going crazy. Since then I had random bouts of dizziness and now it is progressively getting worse. I cannot walk into any store and even find it hard to go to the doctor’s. I went today and although I was in a wheelchair, I was still dizzy because I could not ignore it any further. My mother put cold paper towels on me and then got an ice pack. I had to sit with my elbows propped and my head down. Some things that help me are: staying out of stores, staying cool, laying in front of a cold air conditioner with the air blowing on me, relaxation techniques, short rests during the day. My advice to anyone is to not ignore the signs and symptoms. Write them down and be as proactive as you can. Do lots of Google searches and get your medical records straight.

3. I suffered a lot

I first experienced dizziness when one night my baby woke me up and when I stood up getting out of bed, I was extremely dizzy. The room was spinning and I almost fell over. I thought at first I was just really tired but then when I went to lay back down the dizziness got even worse and the room started spinning harder. I felt as if I was drunk, I sat up and the spinning subsided some then I got sick to my stomach and felt nauseated. After about an hour, the spinning stopped and I was able to lie down and go back to sleep. I woke up at my usual time and felt better, kind of dizzy but not spinning. I now take care of this by consulting my dietitian and taking necessary precautions and also I never move out with out any company. I have also stopped driving which I think you should too if you have some symptoms of dizziness.

4. My personal experience

I first experienced dizziness when I joined swimming classes and was spending my evenings in the library. My dizziness started after I completed my swimming laps and also followed while I was working on the computer. This dizziness gradually grew and I started waking up dizzy every single morning. In the beginning I would wake up and be so dizzy that I would throw up. I discovered that it was because of the changes in atmospheric pressure. I would try to hold my head still, but it didn’t help. I could not go shopping as usually i did, being in stores bothered me. I was very sensitive to light and sound. I had a number of tests done: cat scans, MRIs, balance tests, rotation chair, etc. The treatment is that of a low salt diet and a diuretic.
