Chicken Pox: Symptoms

Top Symptoms

1. Predrome (pain)

This is a very common symptom occurring in individuals with chicken pox. It appears at the location where the virus will reactivate itself. This makes the pain very sharp, piercing in nature, even tearing or equivalent to getting an electric shock. Besides pain, the individual may also feel that the area affected is itching very badly or it can even turn very sensitive to oneโ€™s touch. This pain usually lasts till the rashes show on the body of the affected individual, but there have been cases where the pain has lasted for weeks.

2. Weakness

Since the individual with chicken pox loses the taste to eat food, he/she suffers from weakness. This further aggravates the condition.

3. Runny nose

A person suffering from chicken pox is brought down not only by cough, but is also affected by a runny nose. This is especially painful for those individuals who have developed rashes even on their noses and cannot wipe their noses so frequently. For them a runny nose is a problem and also further disturbs them.

4. Abdominal pain

Pain in the abdomen is a common symptom for people who are going to be affected by the virus. This pain in the abdomen is often confused with appendicitis problems by many people. However, it should be kept in mind that this pain is due to the varicella virus which has affected the body of the individual. The pain usually occurs before the rash develops. However, in many individuals, abdominal pain continues even after the development of the rashes.ย

5. Decreased appetite or loss of appetite

Fever, headache, aches all result in loss of appetite for people afflicted with the chicken pox virus. They often suffer from a decrease in their appetite level due to these reasons. This loss of appetite makes them tired, their immunity system is also weakened and this further increases the onslaught of the chicken pox virus.

6. Mild headache

A mild headache is a common complaint with individuals suffering from chicken pox. This headache further aggravates their complaint of decreased well being.

7. Dry cough, sore throat

These are common symptoms for individuals affected with chicken pox. For people who have developed rashes in their mouth, it becomes difficult for them to drink water properly. Therefore, it leads to sore throats. Developing dry cough during chicken pox sets the stage for the onslaught of chicken pox virus.

8. Rashes

Rashes are the spots that spread throughout the surface of the body of the individual affected with chicken pox. These rashes usually develop into blisters and are very itchy, causing great discomfort to the individual. The rashes can grow anywhere on the body, from an individualโ€™s chest, neck, face, arms to even in their mouth. Multiple crops can develop over a period of several days. The amount of spots developed varies from individual to individual. While some may be fully covered with rashes, others may have fewer rashes.

9. Fever, aches and headaches

People affected with chickenpox develop fever, aches in their body and even headaches a day before a rash is seen on their body. The fever can last for many days, causing a feeling of general malaise in the patient. Fever, aches and headaches are the preliminaries with which one can understand the onset of chicken pox.
