Carpal Tunnel Surgery Recovery Time?

I am 21 years old from california.I had this carpal tunnel surgery on my right wrist as there required a change in my hand use pattern.It was not painful at the time of surgery I must admit as I was given anaesthesia.But after the surgery my hand has stopped working and I can bearly pick up something with my right hand leave aside holding something with a firm grip.My doctor has told me that this is goin gto happen but is it taking longer than usual?I want to know whats the carpal tunnel surgery recovery time like?
