It may happen that a young child who might have learnt some skill but is losing his skill. It may even be how to start a car.

It has been commonly seen that autistic children often starts speaking a little late than the usual children. Sometimes it may be wrongly taken as a sign of Asperger’s. It is actually a sign of mild autism. Young kids with autism start speaking when they are three to five years of age. It may take even more time. There are cases when some children with autism are never able to speak.

Quite dangerous but even this is one symptom of Autism. It may be biting own hands or even banging head against wall. Children even try to hit themselves with hard objects. This kind of behavior is shown due to frustration. It is their way to focus on stimuli rather than any feelings inside. Children who show such behavior need to be handled with love and care.

The most common sign of Autism is rocking or twirling. It is known as self stimulatory behavior. They do it to cut themselves from rest of the world when they are happy.

Autistic kids have this habit of watching a video or movie for a number of times. Disney movies are their favorite. Autistic children like watching a same movie or same part of video over and over. They like it because they already know what is in the movies and there is no surprise element in it. It makes them feel secured.

Sometimes a child repeatedly performs some actions. He may be playing with a string continuously, playing with toys and also moving through certain motions.

Sometimes it may happen that child is focusing on just few details while he has blocked out everything else from the mind. For instance a young child is playing with his toy car. But his focus remains only on spinning wheels. Sometimes he spins the wheels over and over again but doesn’t play with car, at least not in a way that other children do.

It has been observed widely that many babies or young children get obsessed with specific objects. Even if you give them hundreds of objects to play but they don’t lose focus from that object. For instance, there was a case when a child watched sun hitting the window for a long time. Even obsession with toy is a common occurrence.

The symptoms may vary from mild autism to severe autism. Unresponsiveness can be another symptom for Autism. It may happen that your child doesn’t realize someone else’s presence in the same room. Even if he does realize, he may not interact with them. He may not even respond to anything that you are saying. As people are coming to know of Autism, more and more such symptoms are coming into picture.

This can be an early symptom of autism that has been observed in infants. Little babies mostly avoid eye contact even with their mother. Some babies may even cry when they are cuddled or held while mothers keep thinking where did they go wrong. They are actually autistic children. It is their common tendency not to look at faces when they speak.

Sometimes it happens that when you call your child by his name, he doesn’t respond. Do not deny this. After a certain age, a child should be able to respond and recognize when his name is being called.
