1. Cleanse your body

The best way to protect your body against yeast infection is to cleanse your whole body properly by taking regular showers or bath. A proper bath ensures that yeast doesn’t settle down on your body. Once you have taken a shower, make sure that you have dried yourself properly with the help of a clean towel. Remember that moisture is one of the favorable conditions for the growth and development of yeast. Do ensure that all the traces of moisture have been removed from around skin folds, armpits, groin and anal area. These are the hot spots for a yeast infection. Put on your clothes and under garments only when they are completely dry.

2. Maintain proper hygiene in certain areas of your body

Yeast infection mostly occurs in some of the specific areas of the body. This is because of the lack of proper hygiene. To prevent yeast infection inside the mouth, you must brush and floss your teeth at least two times in a day. The risk of developing yeast infection in women increases considerably during menstruation. Changing tampons and sanitary napkins regularly during this period helps in protecting vaginal skin against fungi. After defecation, wipe the anus area properly from front to back. A moist environment always encourages the growth of yeast, therefore, you must dry the vaginal area thoroughly after swimming or showering.

3. Wear undergarments and clothes that allow your skin to breathe

It is a well known fact that a tight, moist environment is one of the most important contributing factors towards the growth of yeast. Overly tight clothing and undergarments increase the humidity and moisture around the areas of skin and genitalia. This moist place becomes an ideal spot for the yeast to settle. Therefore, you must avoid wearing tight fitted clothes that trap moisture such as nylon panties, tight jeans or clothing made from synthetic materials like polyester. It is always recommended to wear loose clothes as they provide good ventilation for the skin, allowing the moisture to dry out completely. The skin becomes dry and the chance of yeast infection is eliminated.

4. Change wet and soiled clothes immediately

The clothes become damp with sweat after physical exercise. In order to protect your skin against fungal attack, you must change such damp clothes as soon as possible. The same rule applies even after swimming, the swimsuit must be changed immediately after swimming. You must take a shower immediately after swimming in a pool, this washes off the chlorine from your skin. Wipe your entire body thoroughly before you put on clothes.

5. Proper diet

The bacteria contained in yogurt, known as the Lactobacillus acidophilus, helps in preventing the invasion of yeast and fungi in your body. Therefore, you must include yogurt in your diet. You need to keep your immune system strong by consuming fruits and vegetables. Try to include garlic extracts in your diet as these contain allyl alcohol. This compound inhibits and prevents the growth of yeast. At the same time, you must also take measures in order to decrease the consumption of sugar and alcohol. Yeast grows faster if the sugar level in the body is high.

6. Ensure everything that comes in contact with your body is clean

Most yeast infections are caused by the introduction of fungus into the specific parts of the body, like groin and skin folds. Therefore, you need to make sure that everything that comes in direct contact with your body is clean. Wash and change your towels regularly. Use of the same towel without frequent washing must be avoided. It is recommended not to share your towel with others. Unclean hands, douching and excess saliva formation in mouth must be avoided.

7. Other preventive measures

Maintain a distance from steroids and antibiotics. The immune system of the body is suppressed by such drugs which leads to an increase in the growth of fungi. Also, the use of feminine hygiene products such as bubble baths and feminine sprays should be avoided. Avoid the usage of deodorant, scented or colored toilet paper, sanitary pads, tampons and pantyliners as these products cause an irritation in vagina. It is recommended to use unscented tampons and pads during the menstrual period. Also, unscented and white toilet paper should be used.
