Could an unexpected jerk in the body be a symptom of Myelopathy?

I have a situation where I jerk unexpectedly. Sometimes it is a simple jerking of the hands and about half the time my whole body jerks. And I don’t mean a simple jerk it makes me spill things, throw things or just attract attention. They are not painful in anyway, but just embarrassing. But they are more frequent. It happens several times a day (the whole body jerk). One of my friends told me that it could be due to Myelopathy. Could unexpected jerk in the body be the symptom of Myelopathy? What could be causing it and what type of doctor would I need to see? Please advice. Thanks.
