STDs: Causes

Top Causes

1. Unprotected sexual contact

One of the most prominent factors that has been identified as the chief cause of STDs is unprotected sexual contact. When the partners indulge in sexual encounter in absence of any means of protection between them, it can lead to an STD. This disease does not occur every time there is unprotected sex. But it passes on from one sex partner to the other.

2. Unsupervised use of birth control measures

There are certain sexual diseases that emerge due to unscientific use of birth control measures. It spreads from one person to the other at a secondary level when there is sexual contact. One such example is genital warts. Therefore, using infected birth control measures is the major factor behind the same.

3. Blood transfusion

Blood transfusion often becomes a major culprit behind the occurrence of many diseases. When the blood transfusion takes place from an infected person to an uninfected person, it leads to an STD in the latter. Likewise, when blood inside the blood vial to be transfused to a patient is infected with STD, the disease spreads.

4. Scratches and bruises in the genital area

There are situations when a simple bruise or a rupture in the genital area can become fatal. This is largely true for females. Vaginal yeast infection is one such type of disease that is often caused due to cuts and scratches in the vagina. The open skin becomes breeding ground for infections since it always remains moist. The infection can become fatal if not treated in time.

5. Skin contact

It is not always true that STDs only spread through sexual contact. There are certain STD infections that can be transferred through casual physical contact. Examples of such diseases are scabies and pubic lice, which are caused by parasites. Whenever an infected person comes in close skin contact with a healthy, non-infected person, the mites spread and victimize the fit person too in the process.

6. Accidental rupture of superficial protection

The only preventive method of staying assured that you will not be a victim of an STD while indulging in sexual encounter is by using a condom in case you are a male, or asking your male partner to use one if you are a female. But if you are unlucky, there can bean accidental case of rupturing of the condom, which will expose you to STD infections in your sex partner.

7. Sharing of unclean undergarments

Although, it has always been said that most STDs do not spread by simple body contact, it must also be remembered that using the personal belongings of a sufferer can aggravate the chances of contracting an STD. Using unwashed and unclean undergarments of an STD victim is such an example when the presence of infectious growth in such articles can travel freely to the body of a normal person and make him or her infected with the disease.

8. Contact with infected body fluids

There are fair chances that an individual can get affected with an STD if he or she has an accidental or unintentional contact with the body fluids of an infected person. Through the body fluids of the sufferer, which can be sputum, blood, genital discharge etc, the infections present in a victim can travel to the body of a normal and fit individual and make him or her sick in the process.

9. Congenital

Children can also suffer from sexual diseases. It is not because children indulge in sexual activities, but they fall a prey to a complex congenital situation. If a woman is suffering from any sort of sexual disease, such as AIDS, then there is a very high chance that she may transfer her disease to her kid if she is found pregnant while suffering from STD. Hence, a woman with STD should consult her doctor before getting pregnant.

10. Multiple sex partners

In the recent years, STDs have been spreading at an alarming rate. One of the major reasons behind the same is multiple sex partners. When a diseased individual indulges in unprotected sexual activity with more than one sex partners, all those involved in the act become vulnerable to STDs. The only way to avoid this is to stay away from unprotected sex and refrain from indulging in sex with multiple partners.
