1. Chest x-ray

A small amount of radiation is used in chest X-ray to produce an image of heart and lungs. A chest x-ray not only helps the doctor in diagnosing lung and cardiac diseases, but also offers a clear picture on any potential heart blockage that may lead to heart failure. The patient is made to lie down or sit straight for a chest x-ray. The x-ray is taken on a film and then the are results analyzed. The process is non invasive and the patient can go home the same day.

2. Stress test

This test is used to analyze any potential stress that might lead to heart diseases. The test usually involves walking on a treadmill or pedaling on a stationery bike. This test helps determine if there is adequate flow of blood in increasing level of physical activities. Abnormal heart rhythms get evaluated through the stress test. The process is non invasive and the patient can go home, the same day.

3. Tilt table test

This test helps finding the causes associated with fainting spells that may be linked to potential heart failure. The patient is made to lie on a bed while being tilted at different angles, even as various machines monitor the electric impulse in the heart, oxygen levels and the blood pressure of the patient.

4. Echo-cardiogram

In this test, an ultrasound in used to evaluate heart valves and heart muscles. Trans thoracic echo-cardiogram is the most popular diagnostic method. In this test, a hand held device known as transducer is placed on chest of the patient. The high frequency sound waves form images on the monitor help the doctor diagnose any potential heart blockage leading to heart failure. The process is non invasive and the patient need not to be hospitalized for the same.

5. Cardiac catheterization

During this procedure, a long tube known as catheter is inserted into a blood vessel. This is further connected to the heart through a special x-ray film. A special dye is injected that helps the doctor check for any potential heart blockage. This process helps the doctor analyze, if any potential bypass surgery is required for the patient. The process is invasive and the patient will have to be hospitalized for cardiac catheterization.

6. Electrophysiology test

Heart rhythm disturbance is analyzed through this test. The groin is made numb during the test process as several catheters are inserted into the veins during this test. These catheters analyze the electric activities in the heart and give an authentic idea to the doctor on heart’s conduction system. The process is invasive and the patient will have to be hospitalized for the test.

7. CT heart scan

It’s a non invasive procedure in which an iodine dye is injected in the veins to help the doctor get a clear picture of any potential complication. The CT scanner produces computerized images of the heart that help check for any calcium deposits that may have formed in coronary arteries leading into the heart.
