Eczema: Causes

Top Causes

1. Immunity breakdown

Auto-immune disorders are responsible for the breakdown of one’s immunity. These conditions such as AIDS, Lupus Erythematosus or Lichen Planus can increase the incidence of eczema in people with low immunity. Cancer is yet another disease that can reduce the white blood cells responsible for defense. T-lymphocytes are the watchdogs of our body and ward off all major toxins from entering the system. When the number of T-lymphocytes go down, the body becomes susceptible to all types of infections including fungal infections, that can lead to eczema.

2. Low resistance

When a person has low resistance; the body is susceptible to invasion from the bacteria from the outside atmosphere. Since skin is the outermost layer, it is the first to get infected, leading to dermatitis or eczema. This can be due to deficiency of vitamins, minerals or fatty acids, especially omega-3.

3. Indigestion

Chronic indigestion can sometimes weaken your defenses and it has been found that many people with eczema have digestion problems.Poor absorption of food, low assimilation or improper defecation can lead to the breakdown of immunity. This has been found to cause skin allergies in many individuals .

4. Dry skin

Dry skin can be a causative factor for eczema, as it leads to itching, inflammation and redness of the skin. Therefore, it is advisable for people with dry skin to use moisturizers and skin toners regularly to avoid skin allergies. During winters the skin loses a lot of moisture and can become dry and scaly.

5. Allergy

Some individuals are prone to allergies .Excessive release of histamine in their body is a response to allergens. These individuals are very likely to get eczema with even the slightest exposure to allergens causing skin allergies. Pollen, dust, food or mold are some of the common allergens which can cause eczema.

6. Stress

It has been observed that emotional stress is somehow linked to eczema, though the exact factor is not known. High levels of stress due to trauma in life can lead to eczema.

7. Toxins

Occasionally the body system gets attacked by toxins that can enter the blood stream from various sources like food, water or air. These are responsible for weakening the body’s defense mechanism and result in chronic conditions such as eczema. Heavy dose of antibiotics too can release toxins that can cause eczema.

8. Infection

Skin is prone to being affected by topical bacteria that can give rise to infections and cause eczematous condition. Fungal infections ,such as Candida, are major causative factor for eczema. Fungal infections can be acquired from air or from contact with animals or pets.
