Diabetes is one of the major and a very common disease among adults. But nowadays, diabetes is spreading its horizon through many forms such as juvenile diabetes (by birth time), or some symptoms have been also shown in children specifically of age group between 10 -13 years. In recent years, medical history also reported that around 300,000 children have suffered from diabetes type 1. Although, there is no definite cure of this disease but its complexity can be brought under control by monitoring the sugar level into the body. However, there can be possibility of its occurrence in your children as well if they show some specific symptoms.
These symptoms of diabetes type 1 in children are as follows:
1. Unquenchable thirst
If you child gets thirsty very often then it could be a major sign of diabetes. This condition mainly results due to rise in blood glucose level in the body which eventually takes up all the body fluid and causes frequent thirst feeling.
2. Frequent Urination
As already discussed, if child starts showing uncontrollable thirsty feeling that indirectly leads to excessive urination. If your child goes to bathroom visits frequently with less intervals of time then this could be diabetic symptoms. Small kids can even start making their bed wet during night.
3. Weight loss
Children of mainly 10-13 years are considered to be of growing age and are healthy too. But if sudden weight loss is noticed then it can be one of the signs of type 1 diabetes in children. This mainly results due to a condition in which body stops getting energy from any energy source such as sugar and ultimately cause excessive and rapid loss of muscles and fats of the body.
4. Lack of Energy
There can be a major shortage of energy in children having symptoms of diabetes. This is due to inability of conversion of energy source like sugar into energy which is the prime need by muscles of the body for proper function. As a result of it, child easily gets tired even after performing little physical work.
5. Intense hunger
Due to less concentration of insulin present inside the body, it may lead to instant craving for food. Children can be extremely hungry at frequent interval of times. However, in some cases decrease in appetite is also one of the major signs of diabetes.
6. Changes in Eyesight
As a result of diabetic symptoms inside of the body, the high blood glucose level can even extract fluids in other parts of the body. Such as in case of eyes, fluid present in eye lenses pulled out. As a result, child starts facing eyesight problem like blurred vision etc. At times, growing children never come to know about it as they never witnessed such problem earlier. So, eyesight should be checked by the doctor at regular basis.
7. Yeast Infection
Children especially girls having diabetes type1 can easily show a sign of yeast infection.Whereas diaper rashes in babies particularly signals the yeast infection.
8. Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA)
DKA mainly occur on extension of diabetes in children who are undiagnosed. This is one of the severe medical emergency conditions. In this, basically insulin hormone runs out for breaking glucose and instead of that starts breaking down fats for energy production. At the same time, there is synthesis of some byproducts as well called Ketones. These products proved to be very poisonous for any healthy human body. This DKA disease can spread very fast but preventable once diagnosed. Some of the major symptoms of DKA disease shown by children are as follows:- vomiting , fast breathing, stomach ache, fruity breath odor, flushed face and fatigue.
Therefore, if your child shows any of these symptoms then please refer to your nearest pediatrician and get your child diagnosed. If there is a diabetes type 1, then there are various ways of controlling this particular disease. Like if there will be shortage of the hormone called insulin then it can be injected through skin by monitoring the body weight, diet, activity level, overall health and several other factors.
