7 Cellulite triggers

Everyone is not blessed with perfect bodies and most of us suffer from cellulite. Cellulite is known to make the skin – mostly around the arms, belly, thighs and buttocks – look paddy and dimpled due to fat accumulation under the skin making it quite unsightly. It is a myth that only fat people suffer from Cellulite. Cellulite is so common among women that even celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Britney Spears, Beyonce, and those on the leaner side like Tara Reid and Rihanna, also have it. Hence, if you intend to get rid of cellulite, you must firstly understand what causes cellulite build up in the body and then opt for an appropriate treatment.Given below are the reasons for Cellulite built up in the body.

Hormones

It is often observed that women suffer from Cellulite more than men and the primary reason for this is hormones. Female hormones such as progesterone and estrogen are responsible for regulating fat storage and metabolism. Hence, you can notice cellulite forming in girls as young as 14 years of age who have attained puberty, and among women who are pregnant, going through menopause or even on oral contraceptives.

Poor diet

With all of us leading busy lives, very few have time for healthy food and instead opt for processed, junk food, alcohol and caffeine which have dietary toxins. These toxins cannot be broken down by the liver and hence are stored under the skin which leads to fluid and fat retention in the cells. This leads to reduced blood circulation and prevent the lymph from draining properly which in turn causes fat accumulation thus leading to cellulite built up in the body.

Clothing

Tight clothing such as tight underwear, tight jeans etc. prevents proper blood circulation. Thus, increasing the chances of fat accumulation in the areas prone to cellulite formation.

Sedentary lifestyle

Exercising is a very effective method to burn fat. But with most women having desk jobs, exercise takes a back seat thus leading the body to ultimately store fat as energy for the future.

Medication

Certain medicines tend to build up cellulite formation in the body. Common examples are diet pills, contraceptive pills, and sleeping pills. These medications work against the natural processes of the body thus leading to fluid retention in the body. Due to fluid retention the toxins are not flushed from the body, thus leading to cellulite formation.

Smoking

Smoking is widely known to be a bad habit with long term health problems associated with it. Apart from causing respiratory problems and lung cancer, smoking is also associated with causing cellulite formation in the body. Collagen is a protein which is found in the skin and helps keep the skin firm. As we age the collagen formation in the body decreases thus causing the once firm skin to lose it tautness and leading to wrinkles. Smoking accelerates this process by breaking down the collagen in the body and thus causing the skin to lose its elasticity and making cellulite more visible.

Smoking also reduces the level of hyaluronic acid which is known to keep the skin moisturized and hydrated. A reduced level of hyaluronic acid again leads to a skin which looks aged and haggard. Collagen and hyaluronic acid are both components of blood and lymph vessels. When these break down, the lymph fluid does not drain properly leading to fluid retention and thus causing fat accumulation. Also, the vessels get damaged and are not able to provide necessary nutrients to various organs in the body including the skin, thus making the problem of cellulite even worse.

Crash Diet

Crash dieting causes the body to realize that it is starving and thus starts storing fat instead of burning the same for energy.
