They could not only save the lives of our near and dear ones, but as an individual would never misguide us if we wanted any kind of medical assistance or advice from them. With this magnitude of trust, many a times we leave all our crucial medical decisions on our doctors, who in turn not only mislead us, but also play with our emotions. These days’ doctors, along with drug manufacturing companies, have just become a media of looting people physically, mentally as well as financially. They are busy filling up their pockets at the cost of the lives of innocent people, thus cheating humanity on the whole. Very often, we come across different medical scams taking place in and around us, which are hard to believe . The list is un-ending, but today we would be discussing about some most deceptive health scams over the years.

1. Sea-silver

A very renowned drug company once manufactured a pill called the “Sea-silver”, and claimed to cure 650 different diseases, including life-taking diseases like cancer and diabetes. It also was believed to be able to make one lose weight without spending hours, exercising at home or working out in the gym. Describing it as a “miracle pill”, consumers all around the world spent millions of dollars to acquire and experiment this drug, but all in vain. The pill failed to pass any of its commitments, deceptively extracting huge amounts of money from people across the globe.

2. Ephedra

Another company, with a product called “Ephedra” challenged and claimed to be able to treat people suffering from obesity and make them lose their weight along with diet and exercise. Obviously, it did no wonders and could not prove its worth. Instead, to worsen the situation, the consumption of this drug led to an increase in the blood pressure to alarming levels that could even cause heart strokes. When the health care system was reformed in the US, a new helpline number was launched by some private drug company assuring the residents to make them aware of the new health plans which would gel well with the new proposed government plan. All an inquisitive person would have to do was just to call up on their helpline numbers and speak to their customer-representative staff who would provide him with all necessary information and answer to all his queries. The offer was said to be in vogue for a limited period, attracting millions of green card holders to zoom into the new idea.

This metallic bracelet was launched with the guarantee to cure muscle pain and alleviate headache if worn around the wrist. It was said to have been ionized through super secretive processes which would relieve the wearer from all sorts of pain. A money-back guarantee was also attached to the product if it would not work for the buyer. Even then, the product, though having been successful in attracting many and minting millions, it only led to be a mirage, failing in all its commitments. When one would call the customer-care number for a refund, they never seemed to take the calls.

Another highly misguided product was the “air-borne” which claimed to boost up the immunity level of the user, protecting him from catching common cold flu from others while travelling. Totally flabbergasted by its advertisements, people loosened their pockets to buy this product which ultimately proved to be a total waste. Legal suits were filed against the company, which had to pay 20$ million as final settlement, even then the product continues to fool innocent people all around the world.

6. Head-on

A medicine in the form of a roll-on glue stick, this product claimed to make your headache disappear in seconds once applied on the forehead. All you had to do is rub it on your head and wait for it to make you get rid of your ailment in no time. Due to threatened legal actions, the company stopped advertising and itself disappeared from the market.

7. Ozone Treatment

Very few of us know that ozone layer is present in the atmosphere which protect us from ultra violet rays harming our body. Taking advantage of this fact, a company promised to rid people of diseases like HIV and cancer if they would inhale ozone in the form of gas, enriching blood supply in the body. Let me brief you by the fact that inhaling ozone poses hazardous health risks as it contains harmful chemicals. So, this turned to be ane of the biggest health scams of its times.

8. Magnet Therapy

In the early 1990’s the magnet therapy came into being, claiming that by tracing one’s body with magnets, one could get rid of a all kinds of ailments affecting their body. Unaware of the fact that magnetic fields have no effect on human body, the manufacturers of this therapy succeeded in misleading thousands of people who got trapped in their net.

9. Chelation Therapy

Research says that vaccines for children contain mercury in small levels. A company refrained many mothers from getting their children vaccinated, announcing that if more quantities of mercury are injected into the blood vessels of a child, it could lead to autism. Center for Disease Control and the U.S. Government, however, claim that there is no connection between autism and mercury levels in the blood, the company was successful in its efforts, the result being that the diseases that could be controlled by vaccination started showing up, leading into an epidemic.

By a natural process, tiny blood vessels in our jaws carry blood through our face. If, for any reason, these blood vessels get choked, we are thrown off-guard, leading to pain in our face.However, taking advantage of the unawareness in the people regarding this fact, some dentists started recommending the “cavitation surgery” to patients experiencing this pain. They claimed to scrape off a particular portion of their jaw bone, increasing blood flow and relieving them of the stress and pain in their face. Thousands of people got carried away by this, ultimately making a hole in their pocket and the result being nill.
