Flu is a threat each year. You wouldn’t want your loved ones to fall a prey to flu virus. There can be a number of reasons behind flu affecting your loved ones. You can avoid flu by keep your family safe and to do so you can follow a few tips:

1. Wash your hands properly

One major cause behind spread of flu is not washing your hands properly, or unwashed hands. Your hands are major source of infections. You must wash your hands before having food, after sneezing, coughing, touching your ears, eyes or nose. Even when you return home, you must make it a point to wash your hands before touching anything else. Use of disinfectant soap or antibacterial soaps can help keep infections such as flu at bay. When you are outside your house and cannot wash your hands, keep an alcohol based sanitizer handy. After using an elevator or any other public places, make sure you sanitize your hands.

2. Stay away from people suffering from flu

To keep yourself safe it is better to be away from people suffering from flu. Avoid contact with people you know are unwell due to flu. In case a family member is unwell, nursing should be done with complete care. After serving or nursing a member of the family, who is suffering from flu, make sure you wash your hands properly.

3. Wipe frequently used objects

Antibacterial wipes are available to wipe objects that are very frequently used at home. Objects such as television remotes, switches, door handles, kitchen trolley handles, kitchen counters, dining table, computer keyboards, phones, etc. Wiping these objects can avoid transfer of viruses and bacteria.

4. Keep your house clean

Changing the bed sheets of your bed at least once a week can prevent accumulation of infection spreading germs. Laundering your blankets and vacuuming your carpets frequently can stop the spread and accumulation of germs. Change your bathroom towels daily. Use disposable wipes as much as possible to avoid the spread of infections.

5. Wear cold protecting clothes

Besides hygiene, you need to keep yourself warm. Kids need proper care as they have lower immunity to protect themselves against flu viruses. Use warm jackets or sweaters. Make sure the legs of your kids are covered by keeping them in jeans or full pants. Keep their head and ears covered with a monkey cap. Warm socks and shoes need to be used to cover your child feet as well. If it is too cold cover their hands with gloves. If possible reduce your child’s interaction with other kids as viruses spread very quickly amongst kids. Along with kids even you need protection against the harsh weather and the deadly viruses; hence even you need to stay warm.

6. Vaccinations

Get yourself and your family vaccinated. Talk to your doctor about the type of flu vaccinations available for yourself as well as your kids. Learn about these vaccinations and get your family vaccinated. These vaccinations can be against a number of flus. Get complete information before getting the vaccinations done.

7. Know about antiviral drugs

Contact your family physician to know if he can subscribe antiviral drugs. These drugs can help you stay away from viruses and infections causing flu. However make sure you get these antiviral drugs prescribed and not over the counter. Over the counter pills can be harmful as you do not know what they contain, they might have several reactions and side effects associated to them.

8. Daily preventive measures

Call them preventive measures or healthy habits, they are very useful. Habits such as covering your mouth while you sneeze or cough, washing your hands, not touching your nose, eyes or ears and if you touch them washing your hands properly, are very important preventive measures.

9. Increase intake of vitamin C

Vitamin C increases your immunity against cold and flu. Consume fruits and vegetables rich in vitamin C really helps in keeping cold and flu at a distance.

10. Eat healthy food

Healthy food helps in improving your immunity against a number of physical problems. Eating a proper balanced diet that includes all nutrition’s proportionately is very important. Healthy food has the potential of keeping you away from all the possible diseases. Include fruits, vegetables, whole grains, etc in your diet. Make sure you wash each vegetable and fruit properly before consuming them. Keep sipping in warm fluids like vegetables soups, chicken soup and other warm fluids. Warm water works like magic. Water has the potential of detoxifying your body and warm water keeps infections at a distance.
