1. Soy the miracle food

It was not easy for me to accept all the changes that were happening to my body because of menopause. I was flooded with a feeling of depression and anxiety which affected my libido adversely. It was so bad that I developed insomnia which catapulted to many other problems, making my life all the more miserable. This is when a friend of mine told me about the benefits of soy in combating the symptoms of menopause. Soy is high in isoflavones which is a plant estrogen. Asians have a high intake of soy products and that is probably the reason why the impact of menopause is less as compared to Western women. I started off the day with soya milk and soya flour pancakes. I would also make it a point to incorporate tofu and other soya products in my lunch and dinner. Over the course of two weeks, I noticed a visible reduction in the frequency of hot flushes and the night sweating stopped entirely! I started sleeping well and that helped me a lot during the day. It is important to eat well and keep your body hydrated when you are undergoing menopause. I make it a point to eat healthy home made food that comprises of lots of soya for dealing with menopause.

2. Yoga calmed me down

I am 45 and have been suffering from awful mood swings and hot flashes. Summers are intolerable and affect me the most. This is when I met a friend who was going through menopause as well and was coping with it quite well. She told me about how she managed to tame her body into normalcy through deep breathing exercises and yoga. I started attending yoga with her and surprisingly it did have a calming effect on me. I was having fewer hot flashes but they were bearable. I began to accept menopause and treated it like a normal life experience and my acceptance of it helped me to overcome the symptoms. Yoga has worked wonders for me and I am proud to say that I do not suffer from hot flashes any more. ย

3. Herbal capsules were a helping hand

I always had high energy levels with a very active lifestyle. However, it came to me like a shock one day when I broke into a terrible clammy feeling of uneasiness and sweat. I was 43 at that time and I could feel something seriously wrong with myself. I used to keep getting these bouts of hot flashes that made my time at work very unpleasant. I kept having moments where I would be dripping with sweat and my entire face used to flush, and all this meant that I was beginning my menopause. I guess I had been too busy to realize that this was imminent and would happen eventually, but the symptoms were killing me. My husband used to be travelling for work most of the time and I was left to look after my two teenage children. There were a lot of things that were happening and a lot of family problems that were taking a toll on me and these symptoms simply blew my lid off. I started getting cranky and irritable for petty things. At times, I would have anger outbursts at my children which would end with me crying about my inability to control it. I knew I had to sort if all out in a natural way and so I took to alternative herbal treatments. I started taking Red Clover that actually contains plant estrogen as well as sage for controlling the perspiration and hot flashes. These herbal capsules seemed to work marvelously as the hot flushes and sweating reduced enormously and ultimately it went away. I started feeling better and it kept me calm and healthy. I continue to take sage as it is also good for memory.

4. Everyday is new day

I was going through menopause and the feeling is so depressing and overwhelming that it really changes you as a person. I was tired and irritable all the time and was plagued with hot flashes and food cravings that made me put on a lot of weight. I hated dressing up because I felt suffocated in all kinds of fabrics. I stopped meeting my friends and literally became a recluse. Then one day, I happened to stumble across a website that offered a lot of help and advise about menopause and how to tackle it. I started off by eating healthily and exercising. Within a week, I noticed the changes in my body as the hot flashes had almost decreased by 50 percent. It’s been four months now and I have almost gotten rid of the miserable symptoms of menopause!ย

5. An inevitable phase

Last year was a terrible one for me as I was going through a divorce and menopause simultaneously! It was a tough time when I would essentially lose my cool with all the irritability and hot flushes that came with menopause and the trauma of raising my kids on my own. However, I knew from within that I had to conquer this battle especially for the kids. I started focusing on my health and took to the gym. On weekends, I would go jogging with my teenage girls which actually helped me relax. Whenever I felt stressed out, I would do something that made me feel good and helped me stay calm so that I could take care of my girls. My kids knew what I was going through and they would always offer comfort and support whenever I needed it the most. It’s been six months now and I have almost overcome all the dreaded symptoms of menopause.
