8 Makeup missteps that leads to aging and their quick fixes

Makeup missteps

Face is the index of the mind or so we have been told all our lives. What happens when we feel that our face is really not an index of our mind? This is probably how make up originated. Women have been using make up for centuries now. However, one noticeable thing about most women is that they never vary their routine over the years. Once they have established a routine, they pay little heed to changing trends and fashion. This would not be such a disaster if the skin never undergoes change, but this is not the case. It is but obvious that while applying make up you need to take these changes into consideration. Non-implication of change in make up method with age leads to makeup missteps. Here are a few things that women frequently do and that which can be averted very easily.

1. Piling on foundation

Spots are a very common occurrence and as the skin ages they frequent the skin even more. The solution to hide spots is not to add more foundation, because this will only make the skin look papery and powdery. In fact, too much foundation would only enhance your wrinkles and make you look older. Powder foundation makes the skin look flat and dull and eventually makes you look older.

The solution therefore is not to use too much foundation but rather to use a liquid foundation. Take a small amount of liquid foundation on to your palm and apply it like any other cream. Use your fingers instead of using a brush for better control and proper application.

2. One-for-all concealers

Concealers are a brilliant invention and had revolutionized the make up industry and they still do. Be it the pimple or a spot they can hide anything. However, this does not mean that you should use it to hide everything and anything. A concealer that can hide a pimple is most certainly a thick preparation. You should not use it to hide those dark circles under your eyes where the skin is very thin. The end result would make you look like an extra from Scream. So what do you do?

Right off, use different concealers. If you are planning to hide your dark circles, then use a thin one. First use a brush and then use your finger to finish it. You can hide your tiredness without letting go of your appearance.

3. Smudgeproof mascara

What with our ability to turn on the water works as we please, smudge proof mascara became the need of the hour and they arrived too. However, they were not the eye havens that we thought them to be. Smudge proof mascaras come with their own cons. They thin out your lashes over time and can make your eyes look tired after removal.

The solution is a little tricky because we do need our smudge proof mascaras. Therefore, before buying a mascara find out whether it is a gentle one indeed and what is the recommended means of removal. If it can be removed easily using warm water then go for it.

4. Metal is not in

Once upon a time, glittery eye shadow was the way to go. Remember Beyonce? Well, that age is over. If you are a teen or in your twenties and have very nice eyes, then sure, you could probably pull off glitter. But if your eyes have already started wrinkling up, then those glitters would make you look creepy and scary.

Instead, go for the soft matte and play up your eyes using those warm colors.

5. Blush right

If you want to appear young and energetic then the blush is very important. Remember this though, techniques for applying the blush keep changing over years and it is very important to keep yourself updated regularly. Cream blushes are in right now and not the pink ones.

Instead of pulling the blush up to your temples, concentrate them downwards to the apple. They would blend with your skin better and make you look not only years younger but also very vital.

6. Doing your eye brows

Our eye brows have always been our subtle look altering tool. We use our tweezers in varying ways to keep changing our looks and expressions for different occasions accordingly. However, you have to remember that as you grow old, your eyebrows would not grow back as they did when you were younger.

So stop yourself from plucking them a little too much for they might not grow back. If you have already done that, then worry not because help is at hand. You have pencils that can restore your original look. Remember to use your pencil from the inner brow and work your way outwards with small, smooth, sharp strokes.

7. Powder overkill

The ones who have oily skin know its hassles. One has to keep wiping the face constantly and if one uses make up, they can never use oil based make up that gives that glow to the face. However, women who have oily skin should remember that applying too much powder to hide the oil would actually make the face look lifeless and dull.

A little oil on the face actually adds to the glow and makes the face look lovely and bright. So, refrain from adding too much powder on your face. If you want to take off that oily look then use an oil absorbing blotter. For constant use throughout the day, use your compact sparingly. Dab a little powder rather than rubbing it throughly.

8. Lighten the lips

It is well known that dark colors make things appear thinner. Therefore, using those dark lip colors is not a good idea because as you start aging, your lips start thinning out.

The solutions is to therefore use lighter lip shades and gloss.

Aging is a gradual process. Growing old does not mean that one has to give up on looking good. The age old adage aging gracefully is not a myth. If one remembers how to look right, one can indeed age gracefully.
